portentious

November 9, 2011

“[A]t my nativity
The front of heaven was full of fiery shapes,
Of burning cressets; and at my birth,
The frame and huge foundation of the earth
Shaked like a coward.”

“A.D. 1066. …Then was over all England such a token seen as no man ever saw before. Some men said that it was the comet-star, which others denominate the long-hair’d star.”

“there appeared a star of marvellous bigness and brightness, stretching forth one ray whereon was a ball of fire spreading forth in the likeness of a dragon … At the appearance of this star all that did behold it were stricken with wonder and fear.”

“A hairy and fiery star having then made its appearance for several days, the mathematicians declared that there would follow grievous pestilence, dearth and some great calamity.”

“In the dark days of winter, by night and by day a dim star hung in the west. In Europa the powers of  Athens and Rome were brought low, in England insurrection rose in the streets and the rulers were sore afraid.”…

See you on the streets!
