Hot & Steamy in Sotheby’s

February 17, 2011

On Tuesday evening, the Sotheby’s Contemporary Art auction sold artworks fetching more than £30 million. When bidding opened at £2 million for Andy Warhol’s ‘9 Marilyns’, debonair members of Arts Against Cuts were overcome with feelings of desire, climaxing in an Orgy of the Rich. Outside, public services were auctioned, and great bargains were to be had on health services, libraries and, eventually, the police force.

‘This evening’s take of 30 million pounds would pay the annual salary of 1389 new teachers, 1765 qualified nurses or the budget of 150 libraries for a year.’
